GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The CFO is responsible for delivering timely, accurate, and reliable financial information to the CEO and the management team through efficient and effective financial systems and business processes. The CFO fosters effective stewardship of public funds and safeguards fiscal integrity through effective internal controls. The CFO leads efforts to examine, identify, and implement administrative cost reduction and/or controls as well as initiatives to improve efficiencies across the agency. The CFO provides direction and assistance to ensure accurate and timely resolution of accounting and organizational issues. This position has regular interactions with the management team and interaction with the Board of Directors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Provides visionary leadership and supervision of accounting department staff.
2. Develops and maintains systems and procedures for financial operations of the organization.
3. Implements and continually improves financial/accounting policies, processes and internal control, to increase staff efficiency and effectiveness, as well as protect organizational assets.
4. Responsible for the preparation and monitoring of the organization’s budget and budget process in consultation with the CEO and appropriate staff to ensure alignment with and achievement of organizational strategies and priorities.
5. Responsible for completion of the following accounting tasks (either directly or by delegation): preparation of monthly financial reports in a timely manner; analysis of all financial data; assurance that all financial data is accurately entered into organization’s financial management system; analysis of annual budget compared with actual year-to-date revenue and expenses.
6. Ensures that all tax filings are completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to the annual 990 and quarterly 941 tax filings; Works to resolve or seek assistance with resolving any other tax issues of the organization.
7. Schedules external audits in a timely manner and acts as the liaison between outside accountants and the organization.
8. Accounts for and keeps track of depreciation schedules and inventory.
9. Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested by CEO.
10. Provides administrative oversight of the organization’s and fiscal agent payroll processing.
11. Attends and actively participates in meetings internally and externally.
12. Travels, as necessary.
