The Director will have oversight for student engagement initiatives that support vibrant, diverse, and inclusive campus life. This includes oversight and implementation of student activities, community engagement, leadership, and other opportunities that support student development at Brandeis. The Director will collaborate with other departments within the Division of Student Affairs and across campus to provide a holistic experience for students that support vibrant, diverse, and inclusive campus life. Serves as a member of the Administrator-on-Call rotation.

Job Duties:

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the office of Student Engagement, including but not limited to: budget development and oversight, office and staff management, contract oversight for department and student organizations, policy development, oversight of Shapiro Campus Center/Game Room/Cholmondeleyâ™s Coffee/Event space, management of technology (e.g. CampusGroups), and marketing of the department.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, professional development, and evaluation of full and part-time staff, graduate assistants, and undergraduate student staff.  Directly supervise 3 professional staff members including 2 Associate Directors of Student Leadership and Community Engagement, and Senior Department Coordinator.  Indirectly supervise and have responsibility for 5 full-time staff, 4 graduate students, and up to 100 student employees.
  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Student Union including oversight of Student Activity Fee usage, attending regularly scheduled meetings, providing guidance to SU leaders in working with members of the campus community, and providing any training as needed.
  • Serves as the lead for campus partners in developing a seamless approach to student events and engagement on campus. Includes working with staff members on the creation and delivery of major annual, institutional-level programs including but not limited to: Welcome and Winter Week, Family Weekend, Senior Week and other signature programs.
  • Serves as a Student Affairs liaison to the Vic and Bobbi Samuels â™63 Center for Community Partnerships and Civic Transformation (COMPACT), support the implementation of formal student leadership programs, and oversee the annual Prizes and Awards student leadership ceremony.
  • Manages strategic planning, evaluates and assess impact of department programs and services, participates in divisional/university committees and initiatives and the work of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in making programs and services inclusive and accessible to all students.

Job Requirements & Additional Information:

Master's degree in higher education or related field required plus five to eight years of progressive experience in professional staff supervision, student organization advising, campus programming, and demonstrated ability to partner with campus stakeholders to improve the student experience.

Ability to multitask a must. Must be able to manage decisions independently as well as collaboratively. Must be able to negotiate with staff, faculty and students.

Experience managing student activity fee funds and operating budgets preferred.

Some nights and weekend work are required.  A dedication to the values and practice of diversity is required.
