The City of Effingham Public Works Department is seeking candidates to serve as a Class A Water Treatment Plant Operator, but will accept the most qualified candidate certified with an operator license from Class A-D. This position is full-time, with a starting wage ranging from $34.59 (Class A) - $29.19 (Class D), based on the level of operator license certification. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a defined pension plan. Wages incrementally increase as defined by union contract. This posting will remain open until the position is filled.
· Collects samples, conducts lab tests, or orders lab tests performed;
· Reads meters, gauges, and dials and keeps logs of readings;
· Regulates water levels in all units;
· Reviews plant log records, gauges, meters and monitors other plant testing and measuring devices to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and accurately;
· Responds to emergency calls;
· Performs plant maintenance, including repair and overhaul maintenance of equipment on a regular basis and records data accurately;
· Performs laboratory tasks, conducts required EPA and IEPA tests, orders and applies chemicals, etc.;
· Remains current of professional developments in the field; responsible for sustaining professional development hours to be maintained in accordance with applicable regulations;
· Submits reports to the appropriate agencies, including but not limited to the IEPA;
· Operates the water treatment plant in accordance with current IEPA standards;
· Performs other related duties in coordination with other Divisions of Public Works, as required.

· Associate's degree or equivalent from college or technical school;
· Or one (1) - two (2) years related experience and/or training;
· Or equivalent combination of education and experience;
· Possess Class B-D WTP Operator License.
